Our therapy is done in a 1:1 setting in the child's environment and the selected goals are taught within this environment. However, it is important to make sure that a positive therapeutic relationship and cooperation are founded before teaching begins.
We focus on building a strong, positive, and safe therapeutic relationship FIRST. This means that before we begin teaching, we make crucial observations on the learner's behavior (e.g., is the learner accepting items you are giving them? Are they following you? Are they staying around you? etc). When these positive behaviors are observed, it communicates readiness to learn.
