ABA is a natural science that uses evidenced-based behavior strategies (e.g., prompting methods, shaping, reinforcement, etc) to teach individual's new skills to increase their overall independence and quality of life. It involves breaking down complex skills into smaller, manageable steps and teaching them one by one.
The aim is to improve everyday skills, such as communication, social interaction, behavior management, and self-care through the implementation of a compassionate, trauma-informed, and learner-led approach.
ABA therapy often involves working one-on-one with a trained therapist, but it can also include sessions with parents and other family members to ensure skills are practiced, generalized, and reinforced across different settings and people.
"We're going to find the joy, then we're going to teach. We're going to be known for as the people who bring the joy. We're joy-bringers." - Dr. Gregory Hanley, BCBA-D
